Large house, early to mid C18. Hammer-dressed stone, now rendered in part,
stone slate roof. Double pile plan with 2-span roof and coped gables with
cross-wing which projects at front only. 3 storeys with attic. Gables have
moulded kneelers. Front of 4 bays. 3 bays have flat faced mullioned windows
each recessed with square reveals. The 3 lights to each window are of uneven
size, the smaller in the centre, flanked by sashes of 4 panes, with same over on
first and second floors. Cross-wing gable has attic window. Central third bay
has doorway enclosed by wooden Victorian openwork porch with cusped barge boards
roofed with indented slates. Each floor level is marked by continuous string
course with cavetto profile. Each of double pile gables have finely dressed
stacks. Rear has C19 fenestration of 2 storeys. Centrally placed doorway has
highly decorative wrought iron porch flanked by sash windows to both floors.
Tall staircase window has large painted glass pictures; the topmost heraldic the
lower of York Minster. Door of 2 fielded panels with large etched glass above.
Side of cross-wing has tall staircase window with double margin lights.
Interior appears to be C19.
