Chest tomb of John Nelson. Dated 1774. Stone with simple panel
sides and inscription to John Nelson and his wife. Also inscribed
is poem:
While we on Earth had our abode,
We both agre'd to serve the Lord;
And he was pleas'd as you may see,
By Death, not long us parted be,
Then he required the breath he gave
Untill again he us restore
A Life to live and Die no more.
Apparently added later is further inscription:
"John Nelson was the coadjutor of
John Wesley, and the pioneer of
Methodism in Yorkshire".
