Description

MIRFIELD UD BOATHOUSE LANE
SE 21 NW (Mirfield)
5/107
Boat House (formerly
5/7/76 listed as Nos. 1-7 (odd)
& barn to south of No 7)

II

Former group of cottages and barn now one dwelling. At latest C17
origin but mainly late C18 or early C19 with recent alterations.
2 early C19 brick cottages at north end. Hammer dressed stone with
some quoins to rest. Stone slate roofs. 2 storeys. East elevation:
former late C18 or early C19 barn to left now converted to single storey
living accommodation. Partly blocked square headed barn door at right
end. To the right of this is the main cottage of, at latest, C17
origin, with quoins and single, 2, 3 and 4-light windows and 2 doorways
all recent. Outshut to rear with C19 added wing. Rear of former barn
plain apart from part blocked cart entry.

Two brick cottages were added at the north end. The first has two
3-light windows to each floor of its south elevation all in stone
surround and with sashes and glazing bars. 2-light windows to other
elevations. Inside is a brick, segmental vaulted cellar with stone
shelves and table. Timbers to these brick houses are earlier and
must have been re-used. In the original cottage is a single beam,
scarfed just in front of the fireplace. At the junction with the
aisle, at rear, is a post with aisle-tie and arcade plate. 2 very
heavy king-post trusses to roof.
