Memorial stone. 1865 and base of Market Cross. C17 or earlier.
Large square red sandstone post, rendered in panels and with stopped
chamfers. Decoratively carved 4-gabled cap. Finial missing. On
one side formerly a drinking water fountain and iron bowl. On the
opposite side a brass plate to 'Ridley Rewcastle. Clerk of Works on
the Savile York Estates. Died April 21st 1865. This memorial is
erected by the agent, the builders and other friends on the estate
as a mark of regard for a just and faithful man'. The cross base
alongside, cylindrical with round socket in top.
