Summer house raised over ice-house, on north-east avenue from
Wilbury House. c1710 for and probably by William Benson. Restored
1899 by A.C.W. Malet. Pebbledashed brick with stone dressings.
Felt roof. Octagonal chamber approached by 10 balustraded steps,
with further 3 rounded steps to glazed and panelled doors on west
face. Half-domed canopy on brackets over, with lead roof.
Attached columns at angles with alternate drums rusticated, and
sash windows to each face. Timber entablature and cornice, broken
forward over each angle column. Interior matchboarded and domed
ceiling. Ice house under, entered through passage from east, to
domed chamber, partly filled in.
