Description

SJ 68 NE GRAPPENHALL C.P. FERRY LANE
(west side), Thelwall

2/16 Old Village Farm,
Former Barn and attached
Shippon

GV II

Former threshing barn and attached shippon, now store-sheds, late C18,
of red-brown brick with a little sandstone; stone-slate roof partly
replaced in graded and plain grey slate. The barn has porch to front
and back, both under pentice roofs. Full-height doorway to front
under oak camber-beam. The shippon (at right-angles to barn) has
little altered camber-arched doorways with boarded doors, and loophole
vents to cowshed and hayloft. The barn (open to the roof) has 3 rows
of loophole vents.
Interior. Shippon and barn have Kingpost trusses of oak (some timbers
are re-used, probably from C17 buildings). The trusses in the barn
have braced wall-posts.
