23.1.61 The Red Lion
GV II
Public house. C17, reworked and extended mid C19. Earlier part is of red
brick, with vitrified headers in chequerwork pattern to ground floor and
forming diamond patterns to first floor. Stands on coursed ironstone plinth.
Later part is of red brick. Clay tile roofs. T-plan, 2 storeys, the earlier
block bordering the road. Small-paned casement windows, those to ground floor
of earlier block of 3 lights, others of 2 lights. Ground floor windows and
doorways have painted rendered square heads. SE elevation has 2 plank doors,
LH one under gabled bracketed hood. First floor windows are surmounted by
small gablets. These, the door hood and the gable all have pierced wavy-edged
bargeboards. Earlier block has first floor brick band. Variety of chimney
stacks, including external one to road elevation of earlier block.
