House. Early C17, the west facade replaced in early C19. For Dr Bainbridge.
Stone rubble with ashlar, and slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays, the central bay
projects under gable. Windows are sashed with vertical glazing bars and horns;
window to gable has small-paned glazing and ventilation hole above. Armorial
bearing below central 1st floor window (Bainbridge). Entrance to return of
central bay. Gable-end stacks and axial stack. North return has later attached
single-storey wing of no special: interest. 2 ashlar dripcourses. Ground floor
has 2-light single-chamfered-mullioned window with blocked basement window below
and similar 2-light window above. Round-headed double-chamfered light over
wing, and 2 chamfered attic lights. South return has 2 ashlar dripcourses,
2-light windows to right hand side and chamfered attic lights. Rear has
2:3:2-light windows to ground floor, the 3-light window with some leaded
glazing, that to its right is blocked. To 1st floor has single light and
3-light (2 lights blocked) window flanking blocked entrance with 2-light
overlight. Interior has open well stair with panelled square newels with ball
finials, turned balusters and moulded handrails; dog gate has slats with round
heads; winding stair to attic. Some wide-boarded doors and one 2-fielded-panel
door. 2 high-ceilinged cellars, one with timber platform, or apple loft over
potato cellar. 1st floor powder closet.
