Farmhouse. Probably C18, incorporating dressed masonry from C17 house including
stone dated 1666, remodelled and probably extended circa early C19. Granite ashlar
to most of front, slate hanging to left-hand side of front and at left-hand gable
end, otherwise granite rubble with granite dressings. Grouted scantle slate roofs
(replaced with asbestos slate at the front). Brick chimneys over the gable ends and
over axial wall of rear left-hand wing.
Plan: Overall U-shaped plan with 2 rooms at the front with central through passage:
parlour on the left with later single-storey 2 room service range at right angles
behind; L-plan stair on the left of the passage; large kitchen/living room on the
right with large fireplace and heated outshut, with chamber above, behind the
kitchen.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3 window south-south-east front with
central round-headed doorway. Ashlar masonry up to ground floor sill level is of a
different colour and may survive from an older front. Window openings in slate-hung
part, on the left are spaced farther from the doorway than those on the right.
Ground floor opening on the right is spanned by a flat arch. C20 panelled door with
blind masonry fanlight over. Circa early C20 horned sashes with vertical glazing
bars.
Rear wall has reused C17 masonry including moulded and panelled lintel with the date
1666 in relief in one panel, a moulded jambstone with cross stop and 2 heads or sills
of 2-light mullioned windows.
Interior: Kitchen fireplace has moulded and panelled chimney-piece, probably C18.
Other features date from the circa early C19 remodelling including: moulded ceiling
beams, architrave with nail-head decoration and corner blocks and 2-panel doors to
chambers. Parts of roof structure may be C18 but much is renewed.
