17.11.66 Olney Park Farmhouse
II
C17 altered and extended early C19. Limestone rubble. Old tile roof, stone coped
gables on fluted kneelers. The plan originally T shaped is now rectangular. Main
wing running east to west, two storeys with attic, with three 2-storey gabled wings on
the north side. Two brick chimney stacks on ridge and one large stone lateral stack,
with paired ashlar shafts on rubble base. South front of 4 bays, the 3 on the right
being C17, the left one early C19. Entrance in second bay from right, doorway with
moulded jambs, moulded panel on doorhead and dripstone over. Single sash window
above, and three tripartite sash windows to each floor. Attic window to east gable,
datestone to central gable on north elevation, probably C17 but with reset date 1829.
Small single storey stone wing at north west corner.
Interior: Original beams, and two moulded oak doorways on first floor.
C17 stone fireplace with Tudor arch and carved spandrels, now in entrance hall, was
apparently brought from another house. Said to have been built as a hunting lodge for
Olney Park, Duchy of Lancaster property since the C15.
