3/26 Screen wall and piers about 40
metres south of Antony House
GV II
Wall and piers. Early C18. Banded slatestone rubble. The wall runs in an arc,
about 100 metres long and about 4 metres high, screening the approach to the south
front of Anthony House from the gardens to the rear. At the northern end, there is a
segmental-headed doorway; to the centre there is a gateway with square piers about 4
metres high with limestone ball finials on shaped stems. The wall is ramped up to
meet the piers.
This appears to be part of the phase of building in banded rubble, used for estate
buildings at Antony and is a part of the picturesque approach to the house.
