Disused cast slag-concrete shell of ironstone mine ventilation
fan-housing. C.1871. Fan and engine housing: rectangular plan;
gabled roof (roof covering missing). Buttresses to E. and W.
sides. Ventilation tower to W. side. Ramped tunnel into
hillside, on S. side. One of several large fan houses built for
Cleveland ironstone mines. This is now the finest survivor.
Included for industrial archaeological interest.
