Early-mid C18, each 2 storeys, 3 windows. Handmade pinkish brick, No 38 painted.
No 40 has raised rusticated quoins and a very high pitched roof, renewed in modern
ridged tiles, with end chimneys partly rebuilt. Replaced sash windows in stone
architraves on stone cills. Similar architrave, with frieze, cornice and blocking
course, to four-panel door with cornice head and oblong fanlight.
No 38 has roof renewed in asbestos tile. Replaced sash windows in flush wood architraves
on 1st floor, the middle one blocked. Ground floor left segmental arched carriage
entrance to yard; right a modern shop front. Long wings run back from both these
houses, rather altered. Rear gable elevations fairly unaltered.
