(North Side)

7/107 High Fen Farmhouse

II

House, originally open hall with service and parlour ends. In
late C16 or early C17 the stack and floor were inserted, the
roof was rebuilt and a kitchen was added to the north side. In
mid-late C18 the parlour range to the south was added. Timber
framed on brick sill with steeply pitched roof originally of
reed thatch, now corrugated iron. Ridge stack. Lobby entry
plan replacing original cross-passage. One storey and attic.
One gabled dormer, probably C19. Two casements and door, all
C19 or C20. Kitchen wing, C17, timber framed and open to roof.
C18 wing, probably of brick, painted. End parapet and end
stack. Interior. The original roof was of crown-post
construction which was demolished in C17 and replaced by one of
clasped side purlin construction, but incorporating several of
the sooted rafters from the original roof. Little of the wall
framing is visible. In the C18 addition there are two original
cupboards with raised and fielded panels and shaped shelving.
