Description

SD 90 NW ROYTON THORP
4/50 Nos. 11 and 12
17.8.87
G.V. II
House, now 2 houses. Cl7 timber-framed structure which was partly rebuilt in
stone in C17 and English garden wall bond projecting gabled crossing to right
(No. 12). The main range is brick on a stone plinth and has stone quoins and
windows which appear to date from C19 with stone lintels and sills. 2 windows
are tripartite sashes. The door is adjacent to the crosswing which was enlarged
in late C18 and has C19 and C20 window openings to right return. Left gable has
raised brick corbel band, diamond patterns and an owl hole. C19 and C20 additions
to rear. 2-brick chimney stacks. Remnants of the earlier timber-framed building
include a crosswall between the main range and crosswing, a cambered tie-beam
roof truss with inclined struts and wattle and daub infill and an ovolo-moulded
floor beam.
