6/15 Lychgate to the Church of St John
the Baptist including granite steps
GV II
Lychgate. Probably late C17 or C18, altered in the C19. Hipped slate roof supported
on open timber ends with C19 timber gates; flight of granite steps to south.
Braced vertical timber posts at each end support the hipped slate roof which has been
given additional support from C19 posts at the north corners. C19 boarded gates with
iron spike finials, one gate off at time of survey (1986) and in churchyard.
A flight of 8 rough granite steps leads up to the gate from the steep path to the
church.
Group value with church.
