Gateway with attached lodges and walls. c.1775, neo-Gothic,
possibly by John Carr. Limestone ashlar, wrought iron. Large
pointed carriage archway with hood mould, label stops and impost
mouldings carried through as moulded cornices over tall flanking
projections and attached lodges. Ornate wrought iron gates.
Moulded cornice runs above archway with battlements above. Tall
projections flanking archway divided in 3 by 2 moulded cornices.
Lowest division on each side decorated by single circular panel
with hood mould; central division by raised moulded crosses and
upper division by simple plaques. Each projection crowned with
battlements. Lodges set diagonally to arch each with single
glazing bar sash with trefoiled head facing towards the arch. On
the outer faces each have a single opening with trefoiled head
blocked with painted board. Low battlemented turrets attached
to outer ends of lodges, set back level with central gateway,
each divided by moulded cornice with raised circular panel with
hood mould below and raised moulded cross above. Screen walls
extend in each direction for approximately 40 yards with coping
and crenellations of various heights. Interior of lodges of no
interest.
