GV II
House, former school and school house. Circa 1840 - 50. Local stone and flint
rubble with Hamstone ashlar quoins and detail; stone rubble stacks topped with C19
brick; slate roof.
Plan: the building faces north-east. There is a 2-room plan house to right (north-
west). Both rooms have a rear lateral stack. The entrance is to rear. At the left
end is the single storey school room broken forward a little from the house. It too
has a rear lateral stack and has now been converted to domestic use. House is 2
storeys. Tudor Gothic style.
Exterior: the house has a regular 3-window front of Hamstone 2-light windows with
segmental headed lights and hoodmoulds. They contain rectangular panes of leaded
glass. The right-hand bay is recessed from the main front. The house roof is
gable-ended with shaped kneelers, coping and apex finials. The former schoolroom
has a central doorway containing its original diagonal plank door behind a gabled
porch with segmental headed outer arch. It is flanked by 3-light Hamstone windows
similar to those on the house but containing plain glass. The left end contains a
large C20 window and the roof above is gable-ended.
Interior: not inspected.
