House. W part a crosswing c.1500, early C17 main range, 2 storeys porch
c.1920, 2 storeys rear extension c.1980 and W lean-to rebuilt. Timber
frame plastered. Steep old red tile roofs, half-hipped but gabled porch.
Of the former T-plan late medieval house the 2-storeys W crosswing
remains but the 2 storeys C17 hall range has smoke-blackened principal
and common rafters re-used in the roof, and a re-used hollow chamfered
tie-beam, in front of the chimney, from the former open hall range. Now
a symmetrical 2-storeys house facing N with one window to each floor to
each side of the 2-storeys porch. 3-light flush casement windows. One
over door. 6-panel door with flat hood on shaped bracket. E room heated
by wide Tudor-arched fireplace with moulded wooden lintol and sunk
spandrels. N end of fireplace cut back for access from front lobby.
Chamfered axial beams. Stair rises at back of chimney and W end is
heated by a later gable fireplace shared with an end outshut. W room
has C18 panelling, cornice and fire surround. Old plank door to space
under stair. Central tie-beam and heavy curved braces of 2-bay crosswing
remain above heavy timbered frame with jowled posts. Face halved bladed
scarf joint in wallplates of hall range. Roof altered to include
crosswing under a single roof. (Jackson (1983)16).
