Cottage and attached outbuilding. Cottage. Late C14 or C15 remodelled
early C18 and mid-C19 with later additions and alterations. Cruck framed,
rebuilt in C18 red brick to left and C19 red brick to right; rubblestone
plinth and slate roof. Originally an open-hall house, floored over and
left end stack added in C18. One storey and attic with C19 dentilled eaves
cornice. Two C20 casements in late C19 style with C19 cambered heads to
centre on ground floor and 2 hip-roofed eaves dormers directly above.
Infilled doorway to left and boarded door with cambered head to far right.
Inserted axial integral end stack above entrance and external end stack to left.
C19 red brick and rubblestone lean-to to rear on right extended to form
late C20 conservatory. Outbuilding: attached to front right corner.
Probably early C18. Timber framed with red brick infill on uncoursed limestone
rubble plinth incorporating cellar; plain tile roof. Framing: square
and rectangular panels, 2 add 3 from cill to wall-plate. Projecting single-
purlin ends and raking struts from tie beams to principal rafters. Interior.
Not inspected but cottage noted as having arch-braced true cruck truss with
elongated cusped quatrefoil to apex and cusped trefoils to spandrels.
Timber frame to former right gable end. C20 red brick lean-to attached
to right gable end and C20 conservatory are not of special architectural
interest. Alcock (1981), p.144.
