Farmhouse, now house. Late C16 or C17 with later additions and alterations.
Timber framed with painted brick infill, part rendered but largely rebuilt
in painted brick; slate roofs. L-plan consisting of 2 roughly equal-length
ranges. One storey and attic. Framing: vertical posts to right of main
range; collar and tie beam end truss with a cambered tie beam reused as corner
post to back wall. Irregular fenestration: right range has small early
C19 cast-iron casement to right of C17 plank door with later fleur-de-lys
strap hinges and C19 pedimented hood. C20 gabled eaves dormer immediately
above casement and late C20 casement to right. Brown brick axial ridge
stack with moulded capping immediately to left of entrance. Gabled range
projecting to left has C19 cast-iron casement to right outer wall with segmental-
headed opening to cellar to lift; C19 casement to front gable, which has
C20 fretted bargeboard and dentilled floor band with infilled segmental-
headed window above. Left wall of gabled range has C20 casement in earlier
segmental-headed opening to left and C20 leaded casement to right of 6-
panel door under C19 gabled porch to right of centre; C19 gabled eaves dormers
to left and centre, latter with C19 cast-iron casement. Interior: framing
(square panels) exposed to several cross walls including to one running
along axis of house to front part of gabled range. Deep-chamfered spine
and cross beams throughout. Massive stack to left ground-floor room of
main range has inglenook fireplace with chamfered wooden lintel and C19
bread oven; stone steps with right-angled turn to right. Collar and tie
beam roof in 3 bays with queen posts between second and third bays from
left to gabled range; single purlins. Similar roof in 2 wide bays to main
range. There is no access at first-floor level between the 2 ranges.
Single-storey C19 or C20 addition to right of main range is not of special
architectural interest.
