7/30 Whittleton's Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Late C15 hall house, now severely altered. Crown post roof
removed 1974. Flint with brick dressings and roof of concrete tiles. 2
storeys in 3 bays. Central door in fluted C19 doorcase. One C20 casement
right and left in reduced openings. 3 C20 casements first floor, also in
reduced openings. Gabled roof with internal end stacks. West gable has brick
gable head carried on rubbed brick kneelers. String course at eaves line.
2 blocked square windows in gable wall and one C20 casement at first floor
level. In apex of gable 3 bricks form date plaque : BDS 1602. Rear is
rendered. Outshut and C20 flat-topped extension. Interior. Lounge with
2 sunk quadrant moulded bridging beams with tongue and jewelled bar stops.
Position of screens passage identifiable by survival of 3 arched service doors
of timber. Doors close set and arches rounded.
