SX 87 SW OGWELL WEST OGWELL

Former farmhouse. Early or mid C19,probably after 1839 (tithe map), with late C19
addition. Stone, rendered. Slate roof, tarred. Roof of main range hipped at
right-hand end, left hand end gabled with brick stack. Wing roof hipped at rear.
Brick stack at junction of main range and wing. L-shaped plan, enlarged to form a
rectangle. 2 storeys. Symmetrical fronts to south-west and south-east, 3 and 2
windows wide. All windows have barred sashes in recessed box-frames, although the
right-hand ground-storey window of the south-east front is a C20 replica. Many of
the panes are of old Crown glass. Doorway in centre of south-west front has 6-
panelled door, the 2 lowest panels flush. Rectangular fanlight with patterned
glazing-bars. Wide flat hood on shaped brackets. Both fronts have bracketted
eaves cornices. Front door opens on to stair hall with flagged floor of local
marble. Two 6-panel doors. Dog-leg stair with closed string, oblong-section
balusters and turned newels. Right-hand front room has wooden chimmneypiece with
panelled pilasters and dentilled cornice. Roof trusses have notched appexes and
(an archaic feature) vertical struts from the tie-beams halved onto the principal
rafters. Formerly known as Parsonage Farm.
