Founded 1770, when the town gate at this point was demolished. 2-storey 'Gothic'
building with 6 windows, crenellated parapet and stone pinnacles. 2-light lancet
windows. Plain door in archway. Includes 1868 extension in Austin Friars' Lane.
Side elevation of 2 storeys. Crenellated parapet with 3 finials. Cornice. 6
windows, 2 blocked, paired arched lights, centre has dripmould with gargoyles.
3 similar windows on ground floor and 2 4-centred doorways, 1868 extension is
of 2 storeys. 6 paired windows and one of a single light. Centre gabled. Some
Barnack Rag re-used from monastic building.

Forms a group with, and of similar date to Archway on site of St Peter's Gate.
