Farmhouse with detached barn forming an enclosed courtyard. C15 with later
additions and alterations. Cob, stone plinth, rendered under gabled and slate roof.
3 room, through-passage plan with 2 rear wings comprising barns and storage. 2
storeys.
Front: 3 window range, all 2- and 3-light windows with timber casements renewed in
C19. Large external stack formerly heating hall, and an internal stack heating
kitchen (to right), all with brick shafts.
Rear: higher end brought out slightly under catslide roof; 2-light casement windows
to first floor, with brick, slate roofed lean-to below. Both rear wings under slate
gabled-end roofs, with sandstone rubble and cob infilling with C19 loft openings and
doors. Freestanding barn similar, but perhaps retaining a little older work.
Interior: lower end with 2 coarsely chamfered beams, and a large (now obscured)
fireplace. Screens to passage may survive behind present walling material. Hall
with intersecting beams; fireplace (now obscured) retains smoking chamber. Rear
newel from hall.
Roof: 4 jointed crucks visible in upper rooms, those above hall with chamfered
collars, all with side-pegging and morticed; wind braces survive wholly or in part.
