Farmhouse. Mid C17; C19 service wing. Granite stone rubble laid to rough
courses; granite stacks, the main one still with its original granite ashlar
chimneyshaft with moulded coping; slate roof, formerly thatch.
Plan and development: L-shaped house. The main block, facing south (backing on to
the lane) is the mid C17 house. It has a 3-room plan. Unheated inner room at left
(west) end was probably a dairy. The 2 main rooms have a large axial stack between
them serving back-to-back fireplaces. The centre room was probably the hall, the
right end room the kitchen. Front lobby entrance between these rooms. Probably C19
1-room plan service wing projecting forward at right angles in front of inner room
end and it has an outer lateral stack. 2 storeys.
Exterior: main block has not quite symmetrical 3-window front of C20 casements with
glazing bars (2 more to the service wing). Front doorway now contains a C20 doorway
in traditional style behind a C19 stone rubble porch with gabled slate roof. Roof
of both wings are gable-ended.
Interior: was not available for inspection at the time of this survey. However a
mid C17 ovolo-moulded crossbeam and contemporary plank-and-muntin screen were seen
in the hall.
East Week is a straggling hamlet which contains several attractive listed buildings.
