Cottage. 1800 - 1805, by Samuel Pepys Cockerell and Thomas Daniell
for Sir Charles Cockerell. Ashlar, slate roof; coursed squared
and dressed retaining wall to either side. Square plan. 2
storeys with lower floor raised above general level of stable yard.
Symmetrical facade stepped up at centre. Pilasters at corners
continued up above general roof level with pointed finials at top.
Central 3-light casement to lower floor with 3-light casement
above. Windows flanked by pilasters continued up above roof
level, pointed merlons forming parapet between. Single light
casement far right with blind doorway below. Matching but blind
light far left with plank door below. All windows with diamond
leaded panes. Wall to either side of cottage c5m in height with
C20 raking buttress on left. Lead lined semi-circular drinking
trough in front of cottage with rectangular and circular sunken
panels. Possible well at rear of trough with fluted margin.
