Datestone - "Ben Barlow Mill Wright of Southampton fecit 1754". The building itself
may be of earlier origin. Now 2 houses, "Millstones" comprising the ground and first
floor of the original machinery area. Purbeck Stone walls and roof. Two storeys and
attics. Some casement windows, some horizontally sliding sashes. One dormer in attic
with hipped roof. Internally, the main ground and first floor rooms in The Old Mill
House have exposed beams and joists. At the north end of the building is a blocked
window, possibly of medieval origin. In the attic over Millstones the grain hoppers
and part of the sack hoist remain. To the east of Millstones was the mill race and
traces of the wheel remain. This was replaced by a water turbine in the early C20
and parts of this survive. Stone out buildings in the garden include an open lean-to
on stone piers - possibly a cattle shelter, and a solid stone building - formerly a
donkey house. RCHM Monument 21.
