7/65 Culverhill House
GV II
House. Late C17 or early C18. Painted rendered stone rubble and cob. Bitumenized
slate roof with gable ends. Axial brick stack.
Plan: 2 room plan, each room heated by axial stack, the right-hand room divided
axially to create a front connecting passage between the front entrance and left-hand
room. Staircase close to front left-hand corner of left-hand room with blocked
entrances to front and rear at the end. The space behind the stairs was originally
partitioned off from the left-hand room to create a small dairy. In C20 the house
was extended into the single storey outbuilding attached at right end.
Exterior: 2 storeys with attic storey. 3 window range. C19 fenestration largely
intact all 3 light casements except for 2 light window at left end above blocked
doorway. 4 panelled door with overlight and rusticated surround at right end.
Interior. C19 joinery principally intact. C19 winder staircase. Early C19 semi-
circular headed doorway at head of stairs. Fireplace to left-hand room altered in
C20. Roof not accessible but partly visible in attic storey and appears to be
largely intact with straight principals.
