GV II

School and school house. Mid C19. Coursed squared and dressed
limestone; stone slate roof; stacks restored C20 in artificial
stone imitating ashlar. Rectangular plan to school with school
house at right angles front left. School: single storey. School
house: 2 storeys. Three tall 3-light casements, one with a transom
the others with a taller window at the centre; one cross-mullioned
and two single-light windows to the school. Four dormers two with
blind single-light windows with dressed stone surrounds flanking a
smaller dormer with a rectangular illegible datestone; far right
had dormer with a blind quatrefoil. Symmetrical, 3-windowed facade
to the school house; one 2-light and one 4-light stone-mullioned
casement to the ground floor; three 2-light stone-mullioned
casements. C19 plank door within a 4-centred arched dressed stone
surround. Two 2-light stone-mullioned casements to the gable end
facing the road. Flat coping to gable ends. Gable-end and axial
stacks. Interior not inspected. This building occupies a
particularly prominent position at the centre of the village.
