Deerkeeper's cottage, late C17 or early C18. Rubble with dressings, slate
roof. 2 1/2 storeys, 1 bay. Central doorway with flat-pointed head in square
frame, now blocked with later window inserted. Flanking 2-light mullioned
windows with hoodmoulds, that to left largely cut away by inserted door.
3-light mullioned window to 1st floor, narrow window above, both with hoodmoulds.
Coped flat-topped gable carries central diagonally-set brick stack. Contemporary
lean-to to right with boarded door and reverse-stepped coping. Left return:
blocked door and two heavy moulded corbels for roof of removed outshut, moulded
string above broken by projecting stone spout below sill of 3-light mullioned
window with hoodmould, side lights blocked. Right return: 4-pane casement in
low outshut, below a blocked 3-light mullioned window. Rear elevation: blocked
doors, one with flat-pointed head in square frame at mid-height in wall, breaking
moulded string. Coped flat-topped gable with moulded stone bracket carrying
outer angle of diagonally-set brick stack.
Interior: 1st floor south-east corner, fireplace on corbel visible from ground
floor; moulded surround with flat-pointed arch in square frame. C19 ground-
floor fireplace in opposite corner. Old stone bowl in internal sill of 1st
floor west window. Principal-rafter roof truss with collar; 2 levels of heavy
purlins.
