Former stable block, built on a U plan, with the north and south ranges
converted to cottages. Early C18. Brick walls, with stone dressings. Clay
tile hipped roof with stone slate eaves. C20 stacks. One storey with
lofts. Central stable (still in use), has a round-headed entrance with
gauged brick arches, stone imposts and keys. Two windows to each side of
this, round-headed with gauged brick arches, stone imposts and keys. 2
gabled dormers over this. Blind arches to courtyard with plank doors.
Cottages have reused C17 material, 2-light mullions with C20 metal casements
and lead lights. The north and south elevations, also have re-used C17
mullions, of 3:2:3 lights, with central doorways. Interior of stable has
central tack room arid startle fittings to either side. Linking brick wall
across front of courtyard. (RCHM Dorset III, p86(2))
