House. Core late C17 or early C18; rear wings late C18, central south
(actually south-east) wing early C19, south-west block early C20. Original
fabric rubble, remainder largely squared tooled stone; roof of large blue
(Scots) slates. Entrance (west) front in 2 parts: left section 2 storeys,
3 bays; 2 C20 casements with 3 12-pane sash windows above. Right bay shows
outline of rubble gable end of earlier 1-storey building. Left end has coped
gable and stepped stack with conjoined shafts. Right section 2 storeys,
3 bays; chamfered plinth; wood modillion eaves cornice. Slightly-projecting
open-pedimented left bay has 6-panel door with patterned fanlight, flanked
by 8-pane fixed windows, all under cornice; tall 12-pane sashes above and
in central bay (right bay plain). Hipped roof, stepped and corniced
stack with conjoined shafts, between right bays.
South elevation in 3 parts: left bay, set forward, is end of south-west block,
with full-height canted bay. Broad central bay has 12-pane sash flanked by
8-pane sashes, and 2 12-pane sashes above; coped gable with finial and
moulded kneelers. Right bay, set back, has 12-pane sashes and roof hipped to
right.
Rear elevation: twin wings with coped gables with moulded kneelers and
corbelled-out stacks. Recessed central part has 2 early C18 ridge stacks,
stepped and corniced with quadripartite shafts (at time of survey, that to
left lacks its cornice).
Interior considerably altered.
