Small country house. AF1687 tablet in pediment, C18 additions, restored c1935 by
Trenwith Wells. Brick with blue headers, old plain tile roof. Late C17 6 bay by
2 bay hipped house with stair tower to rear in centre. C18 wing added to rear at
left and C18 3 bay lower ridged wing added to left end, slightly set back with C20
additions behind it. Main front 2 storeys and attic on basement, 6 bays. On brick
plinth with rusticated quoins to corners and slightly projecting pedimented central
2 bays. C20 central door 6 panel double door in pedimented doorcase with
Corinthian pilasters and close set each side narrow C20 12-pane flush-frame sashes
with rubbed brick arches. In other bays C18 12-pane flush frame sashes under
rubbed brick arches with blind boxes. Moulded 1st floor string course 6 similar
sashes on 1st floor. Coved plaster cornice and pediment above centre bays with
bulls eye window, coved surround and date tablet in apex. On roof either side C18
hipped 2-light dormer. Tall hipped roof, with stack to right of centre bays and
large multiflued stack on left end. Left wing 3 bay, 2 storey on basement, has
on each floor 3 sashes similar to others unevenly spaced, and ridge stack near left
hip of roof. Interior of main building has late C17 staircase with turned balusters
and moulded hand rail, moulded string and square newel. Either side of staircase
in inner hall moulded elliptical arches. Dado panelling and C18 chimneypieces in
ground and 1st floor rooms. C17 oak panelling on top floor.
