Railway station. c1840 by Sir William Tite for London & Southampton Rail-
way. Flint with yellow brick dressings, slate roof. 2 storeys on brick
plinth, 3 window range with centre bay and half bays on each end, recessed
with long And short work dressings, all windows and doors are camber heated
and have same surrounds with white painted key-stone and sill . Ground
floor stucco string course below sills. Wide flat roofed verandah all round
with cast-iron posts. Centre double door with fan-light either side, in each
bay a tall tripartite window, one altered and a small light to left of a
door. Above 2 tripartite sashes either side of 12 pane-sash. Roof has boxed
eaves, yellow brick gable stacks. Railway opened in 1840 here.
