SU 53 SW ITCHEN VALLEY

8/1 Yavington Mead

II*

House. Late Cl7. Orange brick and old plain tile roof. 2 storey, 5 bay single
pile with low plinth, appearing from ground on right as ground slopes from right
to left, rusticated quoins and lst floor string. Central front door with 2 steps
in front with wrought iron handrails each side. Altered C18 door in C20 classical
frame with square fanlight over and consoles supporting cornice. Each side 2
12-pane flush-framed sashes, probably C20. String broken above door with brick
corbels for original porch. On lst floor 5 similar sashes. Moulded and
modillioned eaves cornice. Roof hipped with 2 2-light hipped dormers. 2 stacks
on rear wall. Medieval style ridge riles with hips. Inside in centre full
height Cl7 staircase with moulded hand rail and love-spoon balustrades.
