6/181 Farmhouse, The Lake

GV II

Farmhouse. C17, altered or extended Cl9, C20. Brick-nogged
timber-framing, on brick plinth, a little replaced in brickwork
painted at rear on ground floor: tiled roof. Two-bay, one room
deep house, extended along rear; 2 storeys. Gable facing Cook's
Lane: external brick chimney breast ground floor, slightly offset
to right of centre of original house: brick offsets at first
floor. Two-light casement each side, weatherboard on bressumer.
Weatherboard on slightly lower beam to extension on right; farm
building partly hiding rear not of special interest. First floor
2-light casement each side chimney, single light in end rear
extension: straight braces corner posts to tie beam, cambered
upper surface, with weatherboard. Two collars to truss, each with
weatherboard, V struts over: rear slope later flattened to extend
over rear extension. Chimney set back on right. Front: 2-light
casement on right, beam end on rail over: to left gabled, rendered
single-storey porch; ground-floor front to left of porch not seen.
Single-light casement to left of porch first floor; straight
braces corner posts and one side centre post to wallplate.
Interior not inspected. Forms group with barn, (q.v.).
