Farmhouse. Early C17 with late C19 alterations and additions. Timber-
framed, painted brick infill, brick replacement walling and refacing partly
with stone dressings; tiled roofs, external sandstone ashlar chimney with
rebuilt brick stack at rear and also external brick stack with tiled offsets
to front elevation. Hall and cross-wing type plan; main range of 3 framed
bays and 2-bay cross-wing. Two storeys and attic; dentilled eaves cornice
at rear. Framing exposed to cross-wing front gable end and side elevation;
square panels, 6 from sill to wall-plate and long straight lower corner
braces; trusses have double collars with 3 queen struts beneath lower collar,
2 queen struts to upper collar and V-struts in apex. Front elevation: Main
range has a C19 outshut, formerly the dairy, to the left 2 bays, having a
wood, square-mullioned and metal barred window; to the right of this is the
external brick stack and then a bowed bay with multi-paned bow window, above
which is a hipped dormer with a casement. The cross-wing gable end has a
ground floor bay window with glazing bar sashes, a first floor casement and
an attic light; to the left of the bay window is a part-glazed C19 door
beneath a lean-to roof on 3 console-brackets. Interior: Main range has
raking-strut trusses, the left end one with knee-braces, and single, trenched
purlins. The cross-wing has an interrupted tie-beam truss and double, trenched
purlins. Main beams are stop chamfered.
