Farmhouse. C17, with later alterations. Rubble with ashlar dressings,
artificial slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 first-floor windows. Quoins. Central
gabled porch with C20 door, in front of board door in chamfered ashlar
surround with triangular soffit to lintel. Ground floor windows: C20
casement below hoodmould; 2-light chamfered mullion window with vertical
iron bars and leaded lights below dripmould; casement below hoodmould;
4- pane sash below dripmould. First floor: C20 casement windows. Kneelers
carved with female heads. Ashlar copings. Ashlar stacks at ends and
between bays 2 and 3. Rear: later single-storey projecting wing with
blocked fire window surrounds, some with trefoil heads, and inside it,
chamfered ashlar doorway with triangular soffit to lintel; kneelers carved
with female heads. Left return: in gable, blocked opening with decorative
surround. At top and bottom, diaper moulding, with coats of arms, and small
heads at bottom corners; at sides, large bead and reel moulding. On either
side at top, corbels with female and male heads. Decorative details may
have been brought from Downholme Hall, a medieval building now in ruins
(q.v.).
