Orangery. C18 pre-Palmerston orangery structure remains as a rectangular block,
having five tall sash windows on the long south side; a western portico was
added (1769) by Capability Brown, and the building was extended four bays east-
wards in 1788 by Holland, this last being top-glazed by W E Nesfield 1875.
Yellow brick walls, rubbed flat arches, stone eaves band comprising a fascia
with flutes and circles above a moulding, full-height sashes. The portico has
a central niche, flanked by pedimented doorways, and in front are four Ionic columns
the outer being coupled with square columns at the corners, above all is a
modillion entablature and pediment. The eastern section ends with a flat plain
gable, as background to a wide fluted urn on a garlanded plinth, tall windows
below eaves level.
