Farmhouse. C16 and C17, early C19 and further C20 alterations. Timber-
framed with part painted brick infill, part wattle-and-daub infill, part
brick refacing, sandstone rubble plinth and stacks with brick shafts, tiled
roof. Hall and cross-wing with main axial stack and further gable-end stacks,
entrance to east. Two storeys, cellars and attics. East front: single-storey
stone addition to gable-end of cross-wing to left, 2-light casement window to
gable and bay window to later addition on ground floor, gable over entrance to
right with 3-light casement window to first floor and 2-light window to right
of six-panelled door, main range to right with three gabled dormers with 2-light
casement windows, ground floor: one 3-light casement window to left and one
similar 2-light window and 2-light C20 window to right of ledged door. C20
brick extension extends forwards to right. Interior retains a shaped doorhead
on the ground floor and a similar doorhead resited in an upper room. Large
open fireplace with chamfered jambs and lintel. Good cross-beamed ceiling
with steeply chamfered members in south-west room. (RCHM, Vol 3, p 170).
