House, formerly the rectory, built late in Cl8 with a
contribution from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. In 1802
the front elevation was remodelled and the house re-roofed.
Other alterations took place at the end of the C19 and in the
1960s and 1970s. Red brick with a hipped, pantiled roof and a
wood modillion and dentil eaves cornice, restored. Two ridge
stacks. Tile house is of two principal storeys and a smaller
attic or second storey, but, at the rear, in the service part,
it is of-only two storeys. Principal elevation is in five bays
with finely gauged arches-to recessed hung sashes, restored, of
twelve panes each. Tile windows at the attic storey are of six
panes each only and the four full length casements at the ground
floor are c1890. The central doorway has a doorcase with a
broken pediment, fluted pilasters, and a Doric frieze. The
doorway is round headed and has a door of six raised and fielded
panels and swagged glazing bars to the fanlight. The rear wall
has been rebuilt and redesigned by the present owner. Inside
there is an original cut string staircase with square section
balusters and turned and fluted newels. The plaster cornice
decoration in the two principal ground floor rooms is original
late C18 work. Charles Lamb a friend of Rev William Butt,
Rector of Little Wilbraham is believed to have stayed here on a
number of occasions.
