29 headstones. Late C17, early C18 and mid C18. Mostly marlstone but some
limestone. Nos.2, 4 to 12, 14, 18, 19, 22, 25 and 28 are early C18 with
segmental heads and cartouches formed by flowers, drapery and cherubs. Nos.1, 3,
15, 16, 20, 26 and 27 have shallower carving and are mostly later. No.13, in
limestone, has a scrolled head and a shield-shaped inscription panel, framed by
fruit and flowers, commemorating William Caseles (d.1680). No.17 has a square
recessed panel flanked by scrolls commemorating William Wise (d.1699). No.21 has
an inscription, framed by drapery and flowers below a winged-cherub head,
commemorating Richard Pottienger (d.1688/9). No.23. has a scrolled head and an
inscription panel formed on folded drapery, the inscription commemorating
Margaret Lawry (d.1692). No.24 has a rectangular panel flanked by scrolls and is
probably c.1700; it commemorates Elizabeth Horwood. No.29 has a recessed
shield-shaped panel below a scrolled head, and commemorates Jane Baswell
(d.1662). The headstones are arranged in a single closely-spaced row against the
boundary wall of the Manor House (q.v.).
