L-shaped C17 or earlier timber-framed house of which the exterior has been
largely rebuilt in the C18 in red brick, grey headers, tile-hanging and
weather-boarding. Tiled roof. Casement windows. Two storeys. Three windows.
The courts of the manor were held here, and the interior still retains the
2 cells (now a bathroom) adjoining the court-room with an interior window
of old green glass. the house is associated with and possibly was the home
of the Protestant martyr, Richard Woodman, but his house may have been demolished
as in the churchyard is a tablet saying "Close by in the meadow behind stood
the abode of Richard Woodman, farmer and iron-master, burnt at Lewes 22 June
1557". -
