4/198 Lodge to Redlynch House
II
Lodge to Redlynch House (not included). Circa 1820, enlarged
c1860. Painted Flemish bond brick, addition in English bond, Welsh
slate roof, octagonal brick stacks. L-plan. Entrance at right
angles to road, facing drive. One storey and attic, 3 windows,
canted bay to left has pointed cast-iron casements and fish-scale
slate hipped roof, to right are two 3-light segmental-headed cast-
iron casements with hoodmoulds. First floor has 2-light cast-iron
casement to left, to right in later build is gabled dormer with 7-
light cast iron casement. Gabled roof has carved wavy bargeboards
with pendant at apex, ceramic ridge cresting. Left return is
entrance front with C20 door in segmental-arched opening with porch
with fishscale slated roof on cast-iron posts, 2-light cast-iron
casement with hoodmould over, same bargeboards as front. Rear has
canted bay as to front to right, 2-light casement to left and 2-
storey addition of c1860 with planked door and 3-light casements,
same bargeboards as front. Right return has one 2-light casement
with hoodmould and C20 casements to ground floor.
Interior has reset 6-panelled doors, fireplace with reeded frieze,
mantel and moulded cornice from larger late C18 house. Redlynch
House probably built for 2nd Baron Bridport, son of 1st Earl Nelson
of Trafalgar House (q.v.). (Unpublished records of RCHM (England),
