II*

House. 1804-5, by C.H. Tatham for Francis. T. Egerton. Limestone
ashlar and rendering, slate and lead roofs. Two storeys. Main
front of 7 bays, bays 1 to 3 being added later. Bays 4, 5 and 6
set forward, with a tetrastyle Tuscan portico over a recessed
entrance, with central doorway and flanking windows. Pair of 3
panelled doors with overlight, in timber architrave raised to
broken pediment. Ground floor windows 12-paned sashes with
concealed boxes and key blocks. Plat band. First floor windows
similar but 9-paned single hung. Wide eaves with panelled soffit.
Garden elevation of 4 bays with deep sash windows to ground floor,
and 2-storey bow window at north-east end. Wing to left,of
entrance rendered and later in date but matching. Extensive
service wings to rear.
Interior: Entrance hall has black and white chequered floor and
cornice. Good late Georgian chimneypieces.
