Martello Tower No 62.
Built in 1806 as a coast defnece. Circular tower of red brick with walls
5 and a half to 6 ft thick, originally coated with cement, now mostly peeled
off. In the centre of the inside is a brick pillar with vaulted arches springing
from it. On the ground floor was a magazine with no entrance from the ground
floor. Above were quarters for the garrison divided into 2 rooms with 2
round-headed windows and the only entrance to the building about 20 ft above
ground level. This tower has had a concrete pill box added to the roof in
the last war. Converted to a dwelling and modern windows inserted.
