Nos.25 AND 26
GV II
Pair of houses. Mid C19, altered. Red brick in Flemish bond
with sandstone dressings and graduated green slate roof.
Double-depth plan, each house single-fronted, with side
entrances and coupled back extensions. Neo-Jacobean style. Two
storeys plus attics, 2+2 windows; projected outer bays under
shaped gables with Jacobean finials, each with a stone
2-storey canted bay window which has panelling between the
floors and a panelled parapet, No. 25 with cross-window
glazing but No.26 altered and lacking the mullions and
transoms; and a lancet window to the attic. The intermediate
bays have rectangular windows with quoined surrounds, 2-light
mullioned casements at No.25 but altered at No.26. Roof with
two skylights, one ridge chimney and gable chimneys. The left
return wall of No.25 has a gabled porch with a Tudor-arched
doorway in the front wall, stone gable coping with finial, and
diamond-pattern slate roof; No.26 has an altered porch. Forms
part of a noteworthy mid-C19 seaside development of villas and
boarding houses.
