House, now used as club and offices. Late C18. Rendered, right
return partly slate-hung; slate roof;end stacks with brick
shafts.
Plan: double depth with central entrance into a passage,
principal stair rising to rear right, service stair off
passage to the right.C20 ground-floor hall added to rear.
Exterior: 3 storeys and basement.Symmetrical 3-bay front with
left and right pilasters with grooved rustication; moulded
cornice below parapet. Porch high above the street with 2
flights of steps up, parallel to the front with a snecked
local volcanic trap wall in front with granite quoins. Flat
porch hood with a moulded cornice supported on 2 distinctive
granite columns. Recessed 6-panel front door with panelled
reveals and an overlight with geometric glazing bars. Original
windows with moulded architraves: large 8/12-pane sashes to
the ground floor and outer first floor windows, centre first
flor window 6/9. Second floor has 16-pane outer sashes and a
12-pane sash in the centre. C20 door inserted ground floor
extreme right.
Interior: Features of interest include joinery; a stick
baluster stair with a wreathed mahogany handrail; panelled
shutters and plaster cornices.
