Pair of three cottages, now one dwelling. Probably c1600 with mid-C17
additions and mid-C19 alterations. Part timber-framed with painted brick
and rendered infill on rubble base, part coursed limestone rubble. Thatched
and plain tiled roofs with brick stack to main ridge and at south gable end.
Four bays aligned north/south and comprised of two central framed bays with
tiled roof, additional north end framed bay with thatched roof and rubble bay
at south end with steeply pitched thatched roof. Single storey and attic with
dormers. Framing: central part has four panels from sill to wall-plate. North
end bay has two panels from sill to wall-plate and a truncated collar and tie-
beam truss with four struts at the north end. West front elevation: irregular
fenestration. North end bay has a single-light ground floor casement and a
ledged and battened C19 door. Central two bays have two 2-light ground floor
casements, two gabled dormers with 2-light casements and a C19 gabled brick
porch with a half-glazed C20 door in the left side. The south end bay has a
2-light ground floor casement, an eyebrow dormer with a 2-light casement and
the present main entrance with a C20 door. Interior: the south end bay retains
its large fireplace and bread oven and its winder staircase. This is possibly
the oldest part of the building.
